Tips On Preventing Allergic Reactions to Lash Extensions

July 14, 2022

If you haven’t yet made eyelash extensions part of your self-care routine, you’re missing out. Eyelash extensions are the best service to get done. They have an incredible wow factor. Plus lash extensions save time, you wake up beautiful—the list goes on.

There is one downfall, though, to be aware of: Some clients may experience an allergic reaction. But it’s not usually an actual allergic reaction to eyelash extensions. In most cases it is the adhesive that the client is allergic to, not the lash extensions themselves.

We want to go over some ways we can do everything we can to avoid an allergic reaction. But first let's touch on the biggest sign of an allergic reaction. In most cases swelling will be present, whether in one eye or both. It quickly becomes obvious that there’s some sort of eyelash extension irritation, so be sure to use the best eyelash extension glue for allergies.

Let's start with adhesive ingredients:

Not all adhesives are made equally. We have found that many people have an allergic reaction to latex. Since that is the case, we recommend finding an adhesive that is latex-free. There are many adhesives on the market today that are cyanoacrylate based. Cyanoacrylate is tolerated by most people.

Fewer ingredients are usually best. Try to find an adhesive that doesn’t have a long ingredient list. Using a clear adhesive can help reduce allergic reactions to eyelash glue. Some clients may be sensitive to the black pigment in adhesives.

One last tip: Your lash adhesive is cured with water. You can introduce this water in small amounts with a nano mister. Curing the adhesive helps to stop the fumes from the adhesive from being active. Adding a nano mister at the end of the appointment can greatly reduce the chance of an allergic reaction to eyelash glue.

A lot of people have skin sensitivities, but it doesn’t have to stop them from enjoying the full benefits of lash extensions. Once you know that you can prevent allergic reactions to lash extensions with the right eyelash glue, all you have to do is find high-quality professional products that you believe in. Shop EBL Lashes’ tried-and-true selection of eyelash glue, and you can count on spectacular results. Contact us today with any questions!
